YIDDISH-KAYT (2022)

In April 2022 I was awarded a grant from Creative Alliance, a community arts organization in Baltimore, Maryland, for a kite building project titled YIDDISH-KAYT, as part of their Big Baltimore Kite Fest.
YIDDISH-KAYT, was a community collaboration and flying celebration of Yiddish culture and language. The kite was built by myself, and a small group of cultural workers, artists, musicians, and Yiddishists based in Baltimore.

This project was a great opportunity to showcase Yiddish culture to a diverse audience, which is of particular interest to us as a community of Jewish, activists and artists because we believe that reconnecting to Yiddish is a powerful community tool. By reconnecting to Yiddish culture, we believe there is a large potential for creative inspiration and cultural revival amongst not only Jewish community but all diasporic communities.

This project not only engaged the artists in collaborative making, and research but the Baltimore community who attended the Kite festival.
